Inpatient Rehab Louisiana

Chronic, recurring, and often relapsing, drug and alcohol addiction are diseases of the brain. For many people dealing with these difficult and trying conditions, “just one more and I’ll stop” has become a never-ending mantra as they struggle to overcome the reality of physical dependence and the brain chemistry changes that accompany repeated drug and alcohol use. When it comes time for actual drug addiction treatment, however, there are two major categories of rehab facilities to choose from: outpatient facilities, where people continue to live in their own homes and attend therapies, medical appointments, and other appointments as they work their way through treatment, and inpatient rehab centers, which are 24-hour a day live-in facilities where you are monitored and supervised as you move through the rehabilitation process.

Louisiana is home to some of the best rehabilitation centers in the nation. Here’s a look at some of the signs that inpatient rehab is the right choice for you.

You have a checkered history with outpatient rehabilitation

Some people need only one attempt at addiction therapy. However for many others, overcoming drug addiction takes more than one try. In fact, according to sources like NIDA and the National Institutes of Health, nearly 47% of all recovering drug addicts will relapse during the first year of sobriety, requiring a second course of rehab.

If you’ve attempted outpatient care before, but found that you stumbled and relapsed back into drug abuse or alcoholism, you may find inpatient rehabilitation to be more successful the second time around. Not only is it often a more serious and intensive program, but being surrounded by others in the same situation can provide a support system for those moments when you’re most likely to falter.

You know your motivation is likely to waver

Most addiction treatment programs and recovery centers are voluntary. That means that you are free to come and go as you please–and return to your old using habits as well. If you’ve joined a recovery program to placate your friends or family, and not out of a genuine desire to get clean (or if you simply know that your willpower is weak and your motivation is likely to crack) an outpatient system makes it much easier to walk away over and over again.

On the other hand, inpatient rehab makes it much more difficult to maintain the wall of denial. Faced with reality and absolutely no access to drugs or alcohol, you’ll be much more likely to actually tackle the reality of your addiction and be ready to emerge clean and sober for the long term.

You Need Professional Help

For the rehabilitation process to be as successful as possible, you should have the support needed. The most important includes a drug and alcohol-free environment where you won’t be judged for your sobriety, supportive people who won’t judge you, access to medical care, regular meals, transportation to your appointments and therapy.

If you already have the support you need, then outpatient rehab may work for you. However, if some or all of these are difficult for you, then an inpatient rehab program may simply make the entire process easier on you.
